L’Officiel

Type Design & Editorial Concept

(2024)

As part of the MA Type Design Workshop with André Baldinger, a typeface concept was developed for a publication of choice. The selected publication is “L'Officiel de la couture et de la mode de Paris”, the renowned French bimonthly fashion magazine commonly known as L’Officiel.

The project focused on creating a new typographic direction for the magazine that respects its history while giving it a more contemporary feel. The goal was not to replace tradition, but to update and refine it in a modern way. By looking closely at the magazine’s visual history, editorial tone, and overall identity, a typeface was developed that combines elegance with innovation. The final concept brings together past and present. Classic serif forms reference traditional French typography, while subtle adjustments and sharper details add a modern touch. The design keeps a sense of sophistication and authority, making it feel timeless and elegant, yet clearly relevant today.
